Our Story or.. how it all began....

We have been breeding Siamese cats since 1991. Would you like to know how this came about?

Well... once upon a time shortly before we got married, Naomi decided we needed a cat. So we did some research on different breeds and chose Siamese because to us they seemed to have a unique personality with a strong desire to be an active member of the family and involve themselves in your life.

Anyway, we found a local breeder and she happened to have two female kittens available. They weren't old enough to go yet so we left a deposit for one. A few days later we came to the conclusion that with both of us working it would be cruel to leave the kitten home alone so we went back and put a deposit on the other one. These two girls truly enriched our lives and taught us a lot about the breed. We discovered everything we had read about them was true. They are extremely intelligent, very active and inquisitive, and lovable lap cats who demanded a lot of attention from us and got it! They really were unique individuals with different personalities.

We loved the breed so much that a year later we made the decision to get a male from another breeder and start a breeding program so we could help perpetuate the breed and introduce others to the joy of having a Siamese as part of the family. (It's a true fact that once you have lived with a Siamese, you will never want another breed!)

The breeder we bought our first modern Siamese male from helped us out tremendously with advice and taught us the basics of genetics, health issues and even the ins-and-outs of showing.

Over the next couple of years we grew our cattery by acquiring a few more modern Siamese females. In 1995, with the help of another local breeder, we added Oriental Shorthairs to our breeding program. Also in early 1995 we acquired our first Traditional Siamese female. We didn't realize it at the time but that was a turning point for us. We named her Tia Maria and she was a beautiful Seal Point. We noticed pretty quickly that, other than the obvious visual differences, there were other distinct differences between the modern Siamese and the traditional type. Tia's personality was far more affectionate and out-going than the modern's we had. She loved everybody and was happiest when she was in someone's lap getting petted. Her kittens were also healthier and more robust than the litters from our moderns and all of her kittens had that same laid-back trusting personality.

Over the course of the next few years we learned a lot more about Traditional Siamese and we gradually came to realize in 2001 that the modern Siamese was really a mutated form of what was, originally, a very beautiful and personable cat. I know some people may take offense at that statement but as breeders of both types we became very aware of the differences and  made the decision that we preferred to breed Traditional Siamese with their extraordinary good health and well adjusted people-friendly personalities. They instinctively want nothing more than to be a loving, participating member of your family.

So we had all our modern Siamese and Orientals spayed and neutered and over the course of a year or so we found all of them good homes. Except for two that we were too attached to and kept as pets.
